Reproductive Rights

“State legislatures are now the key battlegrounds for abortion rights in America. And that’s true even in states like New York, where newly passed laws are protecting providers and out-of-state patients who’ve come here to exercise their right to choose. There’s much more we can — and must — do.”

What Micah’s Done

Micah’s work on access to reproductive healthcare goes back twenty years, when he worked with NARAL Pro-Choice New York to defeat the anti-abortion Republican Majority in the State Senate. As Chief of Staff to the New York State Attorney General, he helped draft the “Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act,” to protect and enhance New Yorkers’ access to insurance coverage of birth control without additional cost. And as Governor Hochul’s Director of Policy, Micah worked to enact the Equal Rights Amendment, protect abortion providers and patients, expand Medicaid coverage for abortion, and develop a comprehensive plan to improve maternal and infant health, including making New York the fist state in the country to provide paid prenatal leave.

What Micah Will Do

Micah will work in coalition with partners in the legislature and reproductive healthcare community to continue to strengthen access to care in New York:

  • Increase Medicaid reimbursement rates for medication abortions, which now make up the majority of abortion care provided in NY
  • Give patients tools to determine what kind of care a hospital provides prior to admission
  • Enact reforms and make investments to combat the crisis of maternal mortality, which disproportionately affects Black women
