What Micah’s Done
In 2010, as Director of State Legislative Affairs for the City of New York, Micah worked with the late Senator Bill Perkins to enact clean air legislation to dramatically reduce pollution from home heating oil. As Chief of Staff in the New York State Attorney General’s office from 2013 to 2016, Micah played a key role in the office’s case against Peabody Coal and helped initiate a landmark investigation into Exxon, cases that helped jumpstart government action and regulation of fossil fuel companies and their disclosures related to climate change. And in 2023, Micah helped enact the first statewide law in the nation to require all new buildings to be all-electric.
What Micah Will Do
Micah sees climate change as the existential issue of our time, and he’ll use every legislative tool to protect our future:
- Pass the NY HEAT Act to reduce New York’s reliance on fossil fuels
- Require that fossil fuel producers pay into a Climate Change Superfund to cover the costs of infrastructure investments made necessary by climate change
- Enact new programs to incentivize better stormwater and waste management by buildings
- Pass the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act to reduce single-use plastics and packaging waste by 50%
- Expand the residential solar energy tax credit and provide a property tax abatement to co-ops and condos to make Local Law 97 compliance and the transition to clean energy more affordable
