NEW YORK, NY – Micah Lasher, candidate for New York State Assembly in the 69th District, today announced that he has received endorsement of the Communications Workers of America District 1. CWA District 1 represents 145,000 workers in 200 CWA local unions across New York and New Jersey. Members work in telecommunications, health care, higher education, manufacturing, broadcast and cable television, commercial printing and newspapers, state, local, and country government.
“We are proud to endorse Micah Lasher for State Assembly,” said Dennis Trainor, Vice President for CWA District 1. “Micah has stood with CWA workers in contract fights and budget battles for more than 20 years. We have deep trust in him to advance economic justice for all New Yorkers in Albany.”
“I will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with CWA members as they fight for wages you can raise a family on, better working conditions, and a strong public sector,” said Micah Lasher. “I am honored to have the support of CWA District 1, and I look forward to our continued partnership to make New York a more just and equitable place.”
CWA District 1 joins a growing coalition of labor in support of Lasher, including the RWDSU, Teamsters Local 817, CWA Local 1180, the Civil Service Employees Association, the United Federation of Teachers, The Hotel Trades and Gaming Council, and the New York State United Teachers. Lasher had the early support of progressive leaders and organizations known and trusted by the voters of the 69th Assembly District, including Congressmember Jerry Nadler, Congressmember Adriano Espaillat, City Comptroller Brad Lander, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, State Senator Robert Jackson, State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal, City Councilmember Shaun Abreu, City Councilmember Gale Brewer, former City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and former Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger. He has also been endorsed by all three Democratic clubs in the district — Broadway Democrats, Three Parks Independent Democrats, and West Side Democrats — as well as the League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood Empire States Votes, Voters for Animal Rights, and the Stonewall Democrats.
