Micah Lasher is running for Congress in the heart of Manhattan (NY-12, where Jerry Nadler is retiring) to breathe new life into the Democratic Party, bring fierce independence and extensive experience at every level of government — as well as in the private and non-profit sectors — to Washington, and get things done that improve the lives of New Yorkers.

A born-and-raised Upper West Sider, Micah is currently a member of the New York State Assembly, where he has emerged as one of its most effective members. He is the legislature’s most outspoken voice on the use of state power to respond to actions by the Trump Administration and is leading the fight to allow New York to redraw its congressional lines in response to Texas’s unprecedented mid-decade redistricting. He has also passed significant legislation on housing discrimination, consumer protection, and expanding wind and solar energy supply.

Micah has served as Policy Director for Governor Hochul, Chief of Staff in the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Director of State Legislative Affairs for the City of New York under Mayor Mike Bloomberg, and as an aide to Rep. Nadler. In these positions, he has played a key role in passing landmark laws to strengthen gun control, protect abortion access, and raise the minimum wage. He was also the author of a comprehensive package of legislation to expand the supply of housing in New York, which The New York Times called the “first serious attempt by a New York governor since the 1960s” to tackle the state’s massive housing shortage.

Micah has also served as a trustee and officer of Everytown for Gun Safety, the Riverside Park Conservancy, and the Community Service Society.
Micah and his wife, Elizabeth, live on the Upper West Side with their three children. They are a proud public school family, members of Congregation Rodeph Sholom, and spend lots of weekend hours at little league games and chess tournaments.
